ONE FILIPINO VOTE was commissioned by the Philippine embassy in London in early 2010 to encourage overseas absentee voters within the United Kingdom and Ireland to participate in the 2010 Philippine presidential elections. It also became an online electoral service for voters with materials including candidate information, party platforms and articles focusing on the Philippine diaspora and political representation of Filipinos based overseas.
One Filipino Vote was created by Mark Wolfisz, an economics graduate of Queen Mary, University of London together with Dr Rizal Buendia, former professor at the School of Oriental and African Studies in London, Gene Alcantara, an immigration adviser and British-Filipino politician and Jose Villanueva, community leader and former president of the Batangas Association in the UK.
One Filipino Vote went live on 25 February 2010 and was seen in 71 countries from all six continents showing the scope of Filipino's presence throughout the globe. Many of our kababayans have contacted One Filipino Vote to express their wishes for us to continue the project well after 2010 and to send feedback to COMELEC and DFA to improve the implementation of the Overseas Absentee Voting mechanism.
On 1 July 2010, during the courtesy call to newly-sworn President Aquino of delegates from the Overseas Filipinos for Good Governance conference, One Filipino Vote presented a review of the 2010 Philippine general elections in the context of the OAV system. On October 2011, Ambassador Enrique Manalo of the Philippine embassy in London and Commissioner Armando Velasco of COMELEC had consultation meetings with One Filipino and to help the efforts of the agencies, One Filipino Vote will be starting from the registration period until the review of the 2013 Philippine midterm elections as a way of providing extra support in providing the electoral service to overseas Filipinos.
